I have been doing this for a while. If you have time (ha ha) try to separate the recipes into themes, such as "family midweek meal" "desserts/cakes" "soups" "summer lunches" adn have separate folders for each. it makes finding a recipe easier than just flicking through heaps of loose pages. I use those plastic pocket folders and put the mag pages in those (easy to wipe clean, no rips etc). I used to just put all recipes in there - now I have separate file of "used and will re-use" type recipes...

As a working mother of six children, time , money and individual preferences make catering a bit of a nightmare in our home. The free magazines that supermarkets provide are excellent sources for quick, economic meals and can be rotated or discarded rather than expensive cookery books which I find I might only use for a handful or favourite recipes and clutter the kitchen the rest of the time. Some of them 'price' the meal for you which can be handy initially and they are using produce which is in season and sometimes 'on special offer'. If you are likely to end up with the clutter of cut out recipes which you intend to file, don't bother, use websites such as Tescos and Waitrose etc, use their recipes and keep everything in your file on the computer, it's so much easier. My kids like to 'help' planning the meals, leafing through the magazines and making their own choices is great. Planning menus in advance defenitely saves money as long as you stick to it. Try it for two weeks.....you'll be converted!

I think thats a great idea, I need to start planning meals to reduce our food costs. I hope you don't mind me asking but how much does it cost you to feed a family of four on per month? Everyone keeps telling me that the only way to cut back and budget is to 'plan'... so thats something we are 'planning' :) to do! somehow!
